19. Make a cool video of the party. Super-8: It's the home-movie look we associate with our earliest memories, or 'The Wonder Years.' Jessica Lysons of Worker Bee Designs films in Super-8 and finishes with state-of-the-art editing software.

Jessica Lysons is a Renaissance woman: When she's not serving as the vice-president of the investment firm she co-founded, she films weddings with a Super 8 camera. She believes that the jumpy, scratchy black-and-white aesthetic heightens a wedding's element of romance. Occasionally, she uses the cameras to film the couple doing something they enjoy (maybe salsa dancing), and then adapts the footage into a flip-book that can serve as the wedding invitation or party favor.

While I certainly loved the idea of having a record of our day, I wasn’t sure how to justify spending thousands of bucks on something I felt so “eh” about. That's when I discovered Super 8.

Super 8 films look very different than the crisp digital, or even standard, video we are used to seeing. Images are grainy and colors look muted and rich. Somehow everything manages to look more romantic and ethereal. Once I saw some sample Super 8 clips I was hooked.

Capturing only “the best moments,” the movies average 15 minutes in length, practically fleeting compared with traditional wedding videos. “Like espresso,” Lysons said recently, with a wry smile, “smaller, but more intense.”

“These are things that will survive every move, every housecleaning,” she said. “Film is a treasure.”

"If there were such a thing as a Fantasy Build-Em-N-Race-Em Go-Kart League, Jessica would be my first-round draft pick. She delights in beautiful old machines, she's eager to poke around under the hood, she's as stylish a tinkerer as Brooklyn boasts. Has a sharp eye & uses it. Bowls with more panache than is probably legal or healthy. Builds stuff. Goes for the gusto."

"I wanted you to know how great my entire family thought you were!  Your presence at our wedding was unobtrusive and yet you always seemed to be filming the right things and my interactions with you made me feel at ease.  You were polite and funny (things we greatly value in my family).  In sum, you were exactly what we were looking for."

"As an artist, Jessica has an exceptional eye and intuitive approach to filmmaking that distinguishes her work. Her style is authentic and natural… ideal for families who want to capture the essence of their celebration without being posed or prompted. She understands that she is being entrusted with preserving the most important moments in her clients’ lives, and she does so with high standards and unwavering integrity."

"The film is Spectacular! Spectacular! All we can say is wow! We have watched it no less than two dozen times since we got it last night. Every time we watch it we see some one or something we hadn’t noticed before. It is the GREATEST. We cherish it, and our children will cherish it too."
- Wisconsin Bride and Groom

"All our friends are amazed! No one noticed you filming, but you managed to capture all the essential moments."
- Mother of the Bride

"Your film captured the lively energy of our wedding day. We love the simplicity and timelessness of it. We of course felt it was a magical day, and this sweet little movie truly evokes a feeling of magic. Thank you!"
