Mary, Sheila, Mary Ann & Jan -

Mary, Sheila, Mary Ann and Jan have been friends for over forty years. They
gave each other these crowns and wands to wear at their annual
birthday bash.

Dave has an inspiring commitment to living by bohemian revolutionary priciples.
James is a passionate supporter of the arts. On his 60th birthday we attempted
to equal his generosity with an elegant fête, but found that it can't be done.
CC was about to move away from NYC. I took pictures as people arrived at her party and assembled them
into a crown as the night wore on.
Sasha taught me everything I know about sewing. This crown was made possible by her expert instruction.
Mandy's a whiz at the crossword. The wand was made up of clues for her to fill in on the crown.
Liz was especially excited about her fabulous new blue and yellow kitchen.

Suzanne - January 2005 Katie - March 2004
The Barnacle Studio Guild and Artists' Collective was Katie's brainchild; her crown is made of tea-stained
barnacles. I liked the effect so much that I tried it again with paint chips for Suzanne's crown; her designs are a
constant source of inspiration and awe for me.

Wylie is a bright shining star.

November 2004
I figured if I was going to go door-to-door for the campaign on Halloween, I'd better show
up in a costume. The crown, skirt and wings are made out of ballots.

This costume was made out of nautical
maps. I wore it in the Coney Island Mermaid Parade in 2005. Not pictured: matching parasol and beer cozy.
